A Son Was Born To A Poor Peasant Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DECF DGHI FJKL

A son was born to a poor peasantA
A foul old woman stepped insideB
The hut with trembling bony fingersC
Clawing her tangled locks asideB
-
And when the midwife wasn't lookingD
Across towards that babe she reachedE
And with her gnarled misshapen fingersC
His cheek she very lightly touchedF
-
Mumbling weird words and slowly tappingD
Her crooked stick she went awayG
Nobody knew what charm she'd wovenH
And so the years went duly byI
-
The secret spell came to fulfilmentF
In life much sorrow came to himJ
But happiness and joy and true loveK
Fled the dark sign upon the skinL
