To Laura At The Harpsichord Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEFGGHH IJKJLLMM NNGGLLEAOAPPQQ HHRR

When o'er the chords thy fingers strayA
My spirit leaves its mortal clayA
A statue there I standB
Thy spell controls e'en life and deathC
As when the nerves a living breathC
Receive by Love's commandB
-
More gently zephyr sighs alongD
To listen to thy magic songD
The systems formed by heavenly loveE
To sing forever as they moveF
Pause in their endless whirling roundG
To catch the rapture teeming soundG
'Tis for thy strains they worship theeH
Thy look enchantress fetters meH
-
From yonder chords fast thronging comeI
Soul breathing notes with rapturous speedJ
As when from out their heavenly homeK
The new born seraphim proceedJ
The strains pour forth their magic mightL
As glittering suns burst through the nightL
When by Creation's storm awokeM
From chaos' giant arm they brokeM
-
Now sweet as when the silv'ry waveN
Delights the pebbly beach to laveN
And now majestic as the soundG
Of rolling thunder gathering roundG
Now pealing more loudly as when from yon heightL
Descends the mad mountain stream foaming and brightL
Now in a song of loveE
Dying awayA
As through the aspen groveO
Soft zephyrs playA
Now heavier and more mournful seems the strainP
As when across the desert death like plainP
Whence whispers dread and yells despairing riseQ
Cocytus' sluggish wailing current sighsQ
-
Maiden fair oh answer meH
Are not spirits leagued with theeH
Speak they in the realms of blissR
Other language e'er than thisR
