The Maiden From Afar Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIKEAAA

Within a vale each infant yearA
When earliest larks first carol freeB
To humble shepherds cloth appearA
A wondrous maiden fair to seeB
Not born within that lowly placeC
From whence she wandered none could tellD
Her parting footsteps left no traceC
When once the maiden sighed farewellD
-
And blessed was her presence thereE
Each heart expanding grew more gayF
Yet something loftier still than fairE
Kept man's familiar looks awayF
From fairy gardens known to noneG
She brought mysterious fruits and flowersH
The things of some serener sunG
Some Nature more benign than oursH
-
With each her gifts the maiden sharedI
To some the fruits the flowers to someJ
Alike the young the aged faredI
Each bore a blessing back to homeK
Though every guest was welcome thereE
Yet some the maiden held more dearA
And culled her rarest sweets whene'erA
She saw two hearts that loved draw nearA
