Punch Song (to Be Sung In The Northern Countries) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DAEA FADA GAHA IAJA EIEI EKDL ADMD FNOI MACA PDMD QRSR

On the mountain's breezy summitA
Where the southern sunbeams shineB
Aided by their warming vigorC
Nature yields the golden wineB
-
How the wondrous mother formethD
None have ever read arightA
Hid forever is her workingE
And inscrutable her mightA
-
Sparkling as a son of PhoebusF
As the fiery source of lightA
From the vat it bubbling springethD
Purple and as crystal brightA
-
And rejoiceth all the sensesG
And in every sorrowing breastA
Poureth hope's refreshing balsamH
And on life bestows new zestA
-
But their slanting rays all feeblyI
On our zone the sunbeams shootA
They can only tinge the foliageJ
But they ripen ne'er the fruitA
-
Yet the north insists on livingE
And what lives will merry beI
So although the grape is wantingE
We invent wine cleverlyI
-
Pale the drink we now are offeringE
On the household altar hereK
But what living Nature makethD
Sparkling is and ever clearL
-
Let us from the brimming gobletA
Drain the troubled flood with mirthD
Art is but a gift of heavenM
Borrowed from the glow of earthD
-
Even strength's dominions boundlessF
'Neath her rule obedient lieN
From the old the new she fashionsO
With creative energyI
-
She the elements' close unionM
Severs with her sovereign nodA
With the flame upon the altarC
Emulates the great sun godA
-
For the distant happy islandsP
Now the vessel sallies forthD
And the southern fruits all goldenM
Pours upon the eager northD
-
As a type then as an imageQ
Be to us this fiery juiceR
Of the wonders that frail mortalsS
Can with steadfast will produceR
