Farewell To The Reader Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACACDD AEAFAEAA AGAGAHII

A maiden blush o'er every feature strayingA
The Muse her gentle harp now lays down hereB
And stands before thee for thy judgment prayingA
She waits with reverence but not with fearC
Her last farewell for his kind smile delayingA
Whom splendor dazzles not who holds truth dearC
The hand of him alone whose soaring spiritD
Worships the beautiful can crown her meritD
-
These simple lays are only heard resoundingA
While feeling hearts are gladdened by their toneE
With brighter phantasies their path surroundingA
To nobler aims their footsteps guiding onF
Yet coming ages ne'er will hear them soundingA
They live but for the present hour aloneE
The passing moment called them into beingA
And as the hours dance on they too are fleeingA
-
The spring returns and nature then awakingA
Bursts into life across the smiling plainG
Each shrub its perfume through the air is shakingA
And heaven is filled with one sweet choral strainG
While young and old their secret haunts forsakingA
With raptured eye and ear rejoice againH
The spring then flies to seed return the flowersI
And naught remains to mark the vanished hoursI
