The Workingman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD DEDEFGFG HIHIJKJK DLDLMNMN IOIOPDPD

God bless the brawny arms of toilA
The noble hearts and royal handsB
That plow the plain and seed the soilA
And grow the grains of laughing landsB
King in the blessed vales of lifeC
Where perfect pleasures first beganD
May blessings come with raptures rifeC
To crown the humble workingmanD
-
His kingdoms wave with bannered cornD
And meadows bright with fairy bloomE
While duties of his heart are bornD
Where sylvan shadows hide the gloomE
Sweet Nature fills his heart with healthF
While rustic warbles lead his soulG
Where rill and fountain sing by stealthF
And breezes soft with music rollG
-
He lives where simple wishes throngH
And give contentment to his breastI
While tender lullabies of songH
Bring angel gladness to his restI
No praises linger o'er his nameJ
Where he in silence works apartK
And honor never links with fameJ
The modest glories of his heartK
-
He needs no kiss of royal crownD
To wield the axe or guide the plowL
Or woo the smiles of heaven downD
To cling in clusters on his browL
But in the sacred shine of loveM
With humble deeds he lives his daysN
And drinking from the founts aboveM
He scatters gladness o'er his waysN
-
Proud monarch of the tattered vestI
Thy toil is fraught with greater gainsO
Than his that bleeds where warrior crestI
Slays thousands on the battled plainsO
Thy duty prompts to build to growP
The forest fell the city planD
And scatter seeds of love belowP
Where'er thou art O workingmanD
