The Way Of The World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BBBB CBCB BBBB DBDB EBEB

Since Adam's first sin in the garden of songA
Where the hopes of the race were empearledB
Whenever a mortal does anything wrongA
It is only the way of the worldB
-
If statesmen forget all the pledges they madeB
And the people to evils are hurledB
Excuse their misdeeds 'Tis a trick of the tradeB
And is only the way of the worldB
-
If bankers confusing distinctions of wealthC
Have your gold to their own pockets whirledB
And then gone to Europe for pleasure and healthC
It is only the way of the worldB
-
If preachers forgetting the Master of oldB
And the banner of light He unfurledB
Elope with the fairest ewe lambs of the foldB
It is only the way of the worldB
-
If merchants unscrupulous cheat with a willD
While their lips are at honesty curledB
Harsh blame hie away And your censure be stillD
It is only the way of the worldB
-
The way of the world What a happy excuseE
For the faults and the follies unfurledB
Bind virtue securely The vices turn looseE
'Tis the way 'tis the way of the worldB
