The Songs That Mother Used To Sing Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCDD EFFEGGAA HIJHKKAA LMMLNMAA

The songs that mother used to singA
How tenderly those ditties rollB
And to the dirges in my soulB
The happy notes of gladness bringA
Where'er my vagrant feet may roamC
From pleasures of my childhood's homeC
This life of mine with rapture throngsD
When thinking of my mother's songsD
-
They were not made of magic laysE
No perfect melodies were foundF
That with the strains of fairy soundF
Would charm the stranger's ear to praiseE
But I can never hope to meetG
Another music half so sweetG
And all my longing love will clingA
To songs that mother used to singA
-
With gentleness of crooning criesH
She freed the aching limbs from painI
And lulled the eyes to sleep againJ
With sweetness of her lullabiesH
Love mingled with her tender voiceK
In tones that made the heart rejoiceK
And Heaven's music seemed to ringA
In songs that mother used to singA
-
Though years have passed they still impartL
Glad warbles to the hours of woeM
And their mute carols fondly throwM
The sacred raptures o'er my heartL
Until my locks are thin and grayN
Deep in my soul will sound alwayM
And full of joy will ever springA
The songs that mother used to singA
