Spinsterhood Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGHGIJIJ KLALMNNN OIPIQPQPAlone alone in the twilight gray | A |
In the shadows so dark and dim | B |
I watch through all of the weary hours | C |
And I wait with my heart for him | B |
For him who'll come when he comes at all | D |
As my king and warrior bold | E |
Whose form so tall is my fortress wall | D |
And whose heart is a chunk of gold | E |
- | |
Again again do I dream the dreams | F |
All the dreams that my young heart knew | G |
And through my soul do the yearnings thrill | H |
As of old they were wont to do | G |
I know in truth when his face I see | I |
I shall fall at his shining feet | J |
Where'er it be and whoever is he | I |
In the light of his glances sweet | J |
- | |
I wait in vain for the sounds that rise | K |
From the tread of his horse's hoof | L |
And still the mists hide his form away | A |
And forever he stays aloof | L |
His shining face and his eyes so bright | M |
In the shades of the distance hide | N |
And out of the night with the stars bedight | N |
He hath never approached my side | N |
- | |
O years O wonderful tide of years | O |
From the shadows of time set free | I |
My king my lover my life and bring | P |
To my heart what is most of me | I |
Somewhere in pain do his yearnings grope | Q |
For the joys that my love would bring | P |
O up the slope of his life long hope | Q |
Guide the feet of my royal king | P |
