Quaff The Glass, The Wine Is Red Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EDEDFGFG HIHIJIJI KDKDABAB

Quaff the glass the wine is redA
And the rose of youth is glowingB
While the toils of life are fledA
And the snows of age are goingB
Quaff it with a hearty willC
Quaff it deep and quaff foreverD
Wine will every sorrow killC
And destroy the pleasures neverD
-
When the heart beats sad and lowE
Drink its gladness like a riverD
When the soul is weak with woeE
Quaff and be a cheerful liverD
Never never life despairF
While a cup of hope is nigh theeG
Bend not under loads of careF
While the fount of joy is by theeG
-
If the fickle friendships endH
And thy fortune be a sad oneI
Claim O claim as truest friendH
Ruby wine the sweet and glad oneI
If thy love hath proven coldJ
Leave her leave her for the new oneI
Wine is never false for goldJ
Friend to friend a tried and true oneI
-
Let the cynics curse and raveK
This must be a life of pleasureD
Fill a bumper He's the knaveK
Who would scorn joy's fullest measureD
Quaff the glass the wine is redA
Hour by hour the days are goingB
Wine is yet the fountain headA
From which pleasure's tide is flowingB
