Make The Most Of This Life Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EEEEAFAF BGBGEHEH IJIJKLKL

Make the most of this life where the shadow reposesA
The beams of the summer shall gather in gleeB
And the snow on the graves of the lilies and rosesA
But cradles the blooms that shall whiten the leaB
Though the hopes of the heart be encircled with sorrowC
And billows of wretchedness mutter and rollD
There shall come with the morn of the bountiful morrowC
The pleasures that gladden the desolate soulD
-
Make the most of this life where the carols are sleepingE
That rose in their rapture from lips of the springE
That awakened the world from its winter of weepingE
Sweet songs shall be sung by the birds on the wingE
Though the bosom be dark with the dirges of sadnessA
And solitudes gather so heavy and loneF
There shall float from the musical meadows of gladnessA
The ravishing measures that banish each groanF
-
Make the most of this life 'tis a garden of beautyB
Where blushing the blossoms grow tenderly sweetG
While they brighten the years of man's labor and dutyB
And scatter the kisses of love at his feetG
'Tis a world that is wild with the laughter of livingE
When hands do the brotherly kindness they canH
And its hearts are the treasures of tenderness givingE
To soften and sweeten the nature of manH
-
Make the most of this life there is happiness in itI
When souls find a theme for their jubilant songJ
There is music when angels are taught to begin itI
Which never was marred with a murmur of wrongJ
There are voices that sing in their sweetness foreverK
And mutter no strains of contention or strifeL
Neither burden the hours with the pangs of endeavorK
When we with our deeds make the most of this lifeL
