Ex Anima Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCDEF GHIHIJKL MNONPHQH RSTSTUVW XYZYZA2B2A2

The gloomy hours of silence wakeA
Remembrance and her trainB
And phantoms through the fancies chaseC
The mem'ries that remainB
And hidden in the dark embraceC
Of days that now are goneD
I see a form a fairy formE
And fancy hurries onF
-
I see the old familiar smileG
I hear the tender toneH
I greet the softness of the glanceI
That cheered me when aloneH
The ruby chains of rich romanceI
That bound our bosoms o'erJ
I still can know I still can feelK
As they were felt beforeL
-
I name the vows the fresh young vowsM
That we together saidN
What matters it She can not knowO
She slumbers with the deadN
Again the fields of fate I sowP
As she and I have sownH
I dream again the same old dreamsQ
But I am left aloneH
-
The twining grasses verdant wreatheR
Above her silent graveS
The rose and violet over allT
Their purest blossoms waveS
Unbidden from their fountains fallT
The tender tides of tearsU
A sorrow winds among the daysV
And chains the passing yearsW
-
My life commingles shine with shadeX
The lily with the roseY
And in my heart a loathsome weedZ
Beside each lily growsY
Through every thought through every deedZ
The somber shadows playA2
And I am sad alone and sadB2
And life is never gayA2
