Despondency Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAD EFFED GHHGD IJJID KLLLD LMMLD LNNLD

O gloomy world that rolls in weary spaceA
And moans wild music to the broken spheresB
Whose rivers wander into seas of tearsC
Despair has bound thee in a close embraceA
A birth a life a death man is no moreD
-
Death grows beside existence and with timeE
Is comrade of its changes cycles rollF
Their heavy circles through the human soulF
And pour their dirges into mournful rhymeE
A birth a life a death man is no moreD
-
He gropes in shadows for a happy beamG
That shall delight his bosom into mistH
Dissolves the substance that ambition kissedH
While greatness grows the garland of a dreamG
A birth a life a death man is no moreD
-
Endeavor struggles to an open graveI
The past is lost in monumental dustJ
Where age on age in angry ire has thrustJ
The wise the strong the mighty and the braveI
A birth a life a death man is no moreD
-
The years are shades that totter from their tombsK
The ages ghosts that live in catacombsL
And lure the Present to their awful homesL
Where ancient races wander in the gloomsL
A birth a life a death man is no moreD
-
Oblivion welcomes men with gentle armsL
And presses them like infants to her breastM
Repeats to them her lullabies of restM
And guards them from all sorrows and alarmsL
A birth a life a death man is no moreD
-
Then hasten world and let my battle ceaseL
I care not where I stay nor when I goN
For action gives unhappiness and woeN
But Lethe brings forgetfulness and peaceL
A birth a life a death man is no moreD
