Dear songs of my country How sweetly thy measuresA
Come stealthily stealing o'er mountain and waveB
To sweeten the riches of liberty's treasuresA
And thrill with their numbers the hearts of the braveB
To move in wild glory the souls of a nationC
Till men are together so happily hurledD
That millions are bound in fraternal relationC
And brotherhoods rule in the ranks of the worldD
-
Such praises ye offer our heroes and sagesE
So grand is the greatness that lives in thy strainsF
That small is the fame of the far away agesG
So sunken in tyranny fettered in chainsF
For freedom ye strive and ye struggle for gloryH
And Liberty Liberty still is your themeI
And glad are your lips with the national storyH
Which warriors have written on forest and streamI
-
Dear songs of my country The soul patrioticJ
Ye fill with the wishes of mighty empriseK
Till conquers he tyranny harsh and despoticJ
Or first in the front of the battle he diesK
Ye offer him laurels ye crown him with praisesG
Who falls in the fight with his face to the foeL
And gratitude over his sepulcher raisesG
The marbles eternal of national woeL
-
Your strains are as high as the cloud covered mountainsM
As deep as the ocean as wide as the landN
As pure as the murmurs of silvery fountainsM
But loud as the roar on the billowy strandN
Our deep furrowed prairies our ship laden riversA
Our ax ringing forests our steam shrieking baysO
Swell high in your music for all are free giversA
To freedom's true grandeur and liberty's praiseO
-
How fondly dear songs of my country ye cherishP
The struggle heroic the God shapen deedQ
That nothing of worthiness ever may perishP
But live to the time of humanity's needQ
Afar from the realms of the centuries oldenC
Ye summon with gladness the glories of yearsR
To greet every hero with cadences goldenC
And sing every sage that in greatness appearsR
-
The ages may falter thee Land of my BirthS
The years may thy grandeur and glory betrayT
But long as thy songs murmur over the earthS
No forces can carry thy splendors awayT
Then live ye dear songs of my country foreverU
With voices eternal to utter her nameV
That cycles may never her liberty severU
Nor trample her greatness nor crumble her fameV
