At The Mill Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDCD AADDECEC FFGGHIHI

The water wheel goes 'round and 'roundA
With heavy sighs of mournful soundA
While dismal cries and weary moansB
Unite with sad and tearful groansB
And weeping waves of water throwC
Afar the echoes of their sadnessD
And cadences of plaintive woeC
Dispel each little note of gladnessD
-
My daily life goes 'round and 'roundA
And rest for me is never foundA
The sobbing dirges of distressD
Are more than songs of happinessD
The shadows of despairing doomE
Condemn to day and curse to morrowC
And muffled terrors fill the gloomE
Which offers anguish to my sorrowC
-
But hope O heart for future wealF
The waters rest beyond the wheelF
So life may sing when toil is doneG
And all its battles lost or wonG
There lives a sweeter music thereH
Of gentle and melodious measureI
Where weeping never comes and whereH
The ages perish into pleasureI
