Hymn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABB BCCC D DDEEE FFFGG GAAA

I HEARD a voice at midnight and it criedA
O weary heart O soul for which I diedA
Why wilt thou spurn My wounded hands and sideA
Is there a heart more tender more divineB
Than that sad heart which gave itself for thineB
-
Could there be love more warm more full than MineB
What other touch can still thy trembling breathC
What other hand can hold thee after deathC
What bread so sweet to him that hungerethC
-
Warm is thy chamber soft and warm thy bedD
-
Bleak howling winds are round the path I treadD
The Son of man can nowhere lay His headD
Wilt thou not open to Me To and froE
I wander weary thro' the driving snowE
But colder still that thou wouldst spurn Me soE
-
-
I have a crown more bright than all that beF
I have a kingdom wider than the seaF
But both have I abandoned seeking theeF
Poor weary heart so worn and sad withinG
Oh open to thy Friend thy Stay from sinG
-
That I with all My love may enter inG
I heard a voice at midnight and I criedA
O Lord I need Thy wounded hands and sideA
I need Thy love Lord enter and abideA
