Music Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFCGHIAJCCKLGCMN O

If I rest for a moment near The EquestrianA
pausing for a liver sausage sandwich in the Mayflower ShoppeB
that angel seems to be leading the horse into Bergdorf'sC
and I am naked as a table cloth my nerves hummingD
Close to the fear of war and the stars which have disappearedE
I have in my hands only c it's so meaningless to eatF
and gusts of water spray over the basins of leavesC
like the hammers of a glass pianoforte If I seem to youG
to have lavender lips under the leaves of the worldH
I must tighten my beltI
It's like a locomotive on the march the seasonA
of distress and clarityJ
and my door is open to the evenings of midwinter'sC
lightly falling snow over the newspapersC
Clasp me in your handkerchief like a tear trumpetK
of early afternoon in the foggy autumnL
As they're putting up the Christmas trees on Park AvenueG
I shall see my daydreams walking by with dogs in blanketsC
put to some use before all those coloured lights come onM
But no more fountains and no more rainN
and the stores stay open terribly lateO
