Nationalism And M'ilwraith! The Queensland Elections Cry, 1888 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDEFGF HIIJHIIHKLLKLK

Australia listened Through the brawling gameA
Of played out rascals gambling for her goldB
The rotten hearted traitors who had soldB
For flimsy English gauds her righteous fameA
Through the foul hubbub it did seem there cameA
The still small voice of nobler things untoldB
But now but now with wonder manifoldB
She hears a voice that calls her by her nameA
-
Australia listens as the mother wiltC
To hear her first born cry Say is it deathD
Or life and all life's hope made audibleE
That thrills my heart and gives my spirit faithF
From out the gathering war hosts leaps forth shrillG
The double cry Australia M'IlwraithF
-
The dawn is breaking northward Rise O SunH
Australian Liberty and give us lightI
And thou who through the dark and doubtful nightI
With great clear eyes of patience looking onJ
Even to that splendid hour REPUBLICANH
O know what things are with thee in the fightI
What hope and trust what truth what right what mightI
To never leave this work till it be doneH
Not as these others were the helpless slavesK
Of each diurnal need and cringing debtL
Australia's statesman have we known thee yetL
The world's great heroes call from a thousand gravesK
Thy land a nation cries to thee to be setL
Free as the freedom of her ocean wavesK
