Liberty! Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHIHDJKJLMKM DNONPPPPQPPRSPCP

'LIBERTY ' Is that the cry thenA
We have heard it oft of yoreB
Once it had we think a meaningC
Let us hear it now no moreB
We have read what history tells usD
Of its heroes martyrs tooE
Doubtless they were very splendidF
But they're not for me and youE
There were Greeks who fought and perishedG
Won from Persians deathless gravesH
Had we lived then we're aware thatI
We'd have been those same Greeks' slavesH
Then a Roman came who loved usD
Caesar gave men tongues and swordsJ
Crying 'Liberty ' they fought himK
Cato and his wild beast lordsJ
When he'd give a broader franchiseL
Lift the mangled nations bowedM
Crying 'Liberty ' they killed himK
Brutus and his cut throat crowdM
We have read what history tells usD
O the truthful memory clingsN
Tacitus the chartered liarO
Gloating over poisoned kingsN
'Liberty ' The stale cry echoesP
Past smug homesteads tinsel thronesP
Over smoking fields and hovelsP
Murdered peasants' bleaching bonesP
That's the cry that mocked us madlyQ
Toiling in our living gravesP
When hell mines sent up the chorusP
'Britons never shall be slaves 'R
'Liberty ' We care not for itS
What we care for's food clothes homesP
For our dear ones toiling waitingC
For the time that never comesP
