In The Pit. "chant Of The Firemen." Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK IMNM

This is the steamer's pitA
The ovens like dragons of fireB
Glare thro' their close lidded eyesC
With restless hungry desireB
-
Down from the tropic nightD
Rushes the funnelled airE
Our heads expand and fall inF
Our hearts thump huge as despairE
-
'Tis we make the bright hot bloodG
Of this throbbing inanimate thingH
And our life is no less the fuelI
Than the coal we shovel and flingH
-
And lest of this we be proudJ
Or anything but meekK
We are well cursed and paidL
Ten shillings a weekK
-
Round round round in its tunnelI
The shaft turns pitiless strongM
While lost souls cry out in the darknessN
How long O Lord how longM
