Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHDICJKILMNK OPKPQRISOTUTCJKIGVWV ABCBDEFEGHDI

IN the chill grey summer dawn lightA
We pass through the empty streetsB
The rattling wheels are all silentC
No friend his fellow greetsB
Here and there at the cornersD
A man in a great coat standsE
A bayonet hangs by his side andF
A rifle is in his handsE
This is a conquered cityG
It speaks of war not peaceH
And that's one of the English soldiersD
The English call 'police 'I
You see at the present momentC
That noble country of mineJ
Is boiling with indignationK
At the memory of a 'crime 'I
In a path of the Phoenix Park whereL
The children romped and ranM
An Irish Ruffian met his doomN
And an English GentlemanK
For a hundred and over a hundredO
Years on the country sideP
Men and women and childrenK
Have slaved and starved and diedP
That those who slaved and starved themQ
Might spend their earnings thenR
And the Irish Ruffians have a 'good time 'I
And the English GentlemenS
For a hundred and over a hundredO
Years that Christian landT
Has read its Bible and looked at all thisU
And lifted nor foot nor handT
But still at the present momentC
This noble country of mineJ
Is boiling with indignationK
At the memory of this 'crime 'I
For the Irish Ruffians they tell meG
And it looks as if 'twere trueV
And the English Gentlemen are so scarceW
We must wildly avenge these twoV
In the chill grey summer dawn lightA
We pass through the empty streetsB
The rattling wheels are all silentC
No friend his fellow greetsB
Here and there at the cornersD
A man in a great coat standsE
A bayonet hangs by his side andF
A rifle is in his handsE
This is a conquered cityG
It speaks of war not peaceH
And that's one of the English soldiersD
The English call 'police 'I
