Dead in the sheep pen he liesB
Wrapped in an old brown sailC
The smiling blue sea and the skiesB
Know not sorrow nor wailC
-
Dragged up out of the holdD
Dead on his last way homeE
Worn out wizened a Chinee oldD
O he is safe at homeE
-
Brother I stand not as theseF
Staring upon you hereG
One of earth's patient toilers at peaceH
I see I revereI

In the warm cloudy night we goJ
From the motionless shipK
Our lanterns feebly glowJ
Our oars drop and dripK
-
We land on the thin pale beachL
The coral isle's round usM
A glade of driven sand we reachL
Our burial ground's found usM
-
There we dig him a grave jestingJ
We know not his nameN
What heeds he who is resting restingJ
Would I were the sameN
-
Come away it is over and doneO
Peace and he shall not severP
By moonlight nor light of the sunO
For ever and everP

-
Sleep in the pure driven sandR
No one will knowJ
In the coral isle by the landR
Where the blue tides come and goJ
-
Alive thou wert poor despisedS
Dead thou canst haveT
What mightiest monarchs have prizedS
An eternal graveU
-
Alone with the lovely islesV
With the lovely deepW
Where the sea winds sing and the sunlight smilesV
Thou liest asleepW
