Soliloquy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCD EEFFGGHH HHII JJKKLLMM

When I was young I had a careA
Lest I should cheat me of my shareA
Of that which makes it sweet to striveB
For life and dying still surviveB
A name in sunshine written higherC
Than lark or poet dare aspireD
-
But I grew weary doing wellE
Besides 'twas sweeter in that hellE
Down with the loud banditti peopleF
Who robbed the orchards climbed the steepleF
For jackdaws' eyes and made the cockG
Crow ere 'twas daylight on the clockG
I was so very bad the neighboursH
Spoke of me at their daily laboursH
-
And now I'm drinking wine in FranceH
The helpless child of circumstanceH
To morrow will be loud with warI
How will I be accounted forI
-
It is too late now to retrieveJ
A fallen dream too late to grieveJ
A name unmade but not too lateK
To thank the gods for what is greatK
A keen edged sword a soldier's heartL
Is greater than a poet's artL
And greater than a poet's fameM
A little grave that has no nameM
