L' alma mia fiamma oltra le belle bellaA

HE ACKNOWLEDGES THE WISDOM OF HER PAST COLDNESS TO HIMB
-
-
My noble flame more fair than fairest areC
Whom kind Heaven here has e'er in favour shownD
Before her time alas for me has flownD
To her celestial home and parent starC
I seem but now to wake wherein a barC
She placed on passion 'twas for good aloneD
As with a gentle coldness all her ownD
She waged with my hot wishes virtuous warE
My thanks on her for such wise care I pressF
That with her lovely face and sweet disdainG
She check'd my love and taught me peace to gainG
O graceful artifice deserved successF
I with my fond verse with her bright eyes sheH
Glory in her she virtue got in meH
