Passato 'l tempo omai lasso che tantoA
-
HIS ONLY DESIRE IS AGAIN TO BE WITH HERB
-
-
Fled fled alas for ever is the dayA
Which to my flame some soothing whilom broughtA
And fled is she of whom I wept and wroteA
Yet still the pang the tear prolong their stayA
And fled that angel vision far awayA
But flying with soft glance my heart it smoteA
'Twas then my own which straight divided soughtA
Her who had wrapp'd it in her robe of clayA
Part shares her tomb part to her heaven is spedA
Where now with laurel wreathed in triumph's carC
She reaps the meed of matchless holinessD
So might I of this flesh discumber dA
Which holds me prisoner here from sorrow farC
With her expatiate free 'midst realms of endless blissE

Ah gone for ever are the happy yearsG
That soothed my soul amid Love's fiercest fireB
And she for whom I wept and tuned my lyreH
Has gone alas But left my lyre my tearsI
Gone is that face whose holy look endearsI
But in my heart ere yet it did retireH
Left the sweet radiance of its eyes entireB
My heart Ah no not mine for to the spheresI
Of light she bore it captive soaring highJ
In angel robe triumphant and now standsI
Crown'd with the laurel wreath of chastityA
Oh could I throw aside these earthly bandsI
That tie me down where wretched mortals sighJ
To join blest spirits in celestial landsI
