Dolce mio caro e prezioso pegnoA
-
HE PRAYS HER TO APPEAR BEFORE HIM IN A VISIONA
-
-
Dear precious pledge by Nature snatch'd awayB
But yet reserved for me in realms undyingC
O thou on whom my life is aye relyingC
Why tarry thus when for thine aid I prayB
Time was when sleep could to mine eyes conveyB
Sweet visions worthy thee why is my sighingC
Unheeded now who keeps thee from replyingC
Surely contempt in heaven cannot stayB
Often on earth the gentlest heart is fainA
To feed and banquet on another's woeD
Thus love is conquer'd in his own domainA
But thou who seest through me and dost knowD
All that I feel thou who canst soothe my painA
Oh let thy blessed shade its peace bestowD
