Questo nostro caduco e fragil beneA
-
NATURE DISPLAYED IN HER EVERY CHARM BUT SOON WITHDREW HER FROM SIGHTB
-
-
This gift of beauty which a good men nameC
Frail fleeting fancied false a wind a shadeD
Ne'er yet with all its spells one fair array'dD
Save in this age when for my cost it cameC
Not such is Nature's duty nor her aimC
One to enrich if others poor are madeD
But now on one is all her wealth display'dD
Ladies your pardon let my boldness claimC
Like loveliness ne'er lived or old or newE
Nor ever shall I ween but hid so strangeF
Scarce did our erring world its marvel viewE
So soon it fled thus too my soul must changeF
The little light vouchsafed me from the skiesG
Only for pleasure of her sainted eyesG
