Sonnet Xxi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CACACACADEADEA F

Amor piangeva ed io con lui talvoltaA
-
HE CONGRATULATES BOCCACCIO ON HIS RETURN TO THE RIGHT PATHB
-
-
Love grieved and I with him at times to seeC
By what strange practices and cunning artA
You still continued from his fetters freeC
From whom my feet were never far apartA
Since to the right way brought by God's decreeC
Lifting my hands to heaven with pious heartA
I thank Him for his love and grace for HeC
The soul prayer of the just will never thwartA
And if returning to the amorous strifeD
Its fair desire to teach us to denyE
Hollows and hillocks in thy path aboundA
'Tis but to prove to us with thorns how rifeD
The narrow way the ascent how hard and highE
Where with true virtue man at last is crown'dA
