Quand' io son tutto volto in quella parteA
-
HE FLIES BUT PASSION PURSUES HIMB
-
-
When I reflect and turn me to that partA
Whence my sweet lady beam'd in purest lightC
And in my inmost thought remains that lightC
Which burns me and consumes in every partA
I who yet dread lest from my heart it partA
And see at hand the end of this my lightC
Go lonely like a man deprived of lightC
Ignorant where to go whence to departA
Thus flee I from the stroke which lays me deadD
Yet flee not with such speed but that desireE
Follows companion of my flight aloneF
Silent I go but these my words though deadD
Others would cause to weep this I desireE
That I may weep and waste myself aloneF

-
When all my mind I turn to the one partD
Where sheds my lady's face its beauteous lightD
And lingers in my loving thought the lightD
That burns and racks within me ev'ry partD
I from my heart who fear that it may partD
And see the near end of my single lightD
Go as a blind man groping without lightD
Who knows not where yet presses to departD
Thus from the blows which ever wish me deadD
I flee but not so swiftly that desireE
Ceases to come as is its wont with meG
Silent I move for accents of the deadD
Would melt the general age and I desireE
That sighs and tears should only fall from meG
