Padre del ciel dopo i perduti giorniA
-
CONSCIOUS OF HIS FOLLY HE PRAYS GOD TO TURN HIM TO A BETTER LIFEB
-
-
Father of heaven after the days misspentC
After the nights of wild tumultuous thoughtD
In that fierce passion's strong entanglementE
One for my peace too lovely fair had wroughtD
Vouchsafe that by thy grace my spirit bentC
On nobler aims to holier ways be broughtD
That so my foe spreading with dark intentC
His mortal snares be foil'd and held at noughtC
E'en now th' eleventh year its course fulfilsF
That I have bow'd me to the tyrannyA
Relentless most to fealty most triedC
Have mercy Lord on my unworthy illsF
Fix all my thoughts in contemplation highG
How on the cross this day a Saviour diedC

Father of heaven despite my days all lostC
Despite my nights in doting folly spentC
With that fierce passion which my bosom rentC
At sight of her too lovely for my costC
Vouchsafe at length that by thy grace I turnA
To wiser life and enterprise more fairH
So that my cruel foe in vain his snareH
Set for my soul may his defeat discernA
Already Lord the eleventh year circling wanesF
Since first beneath his tyrant yoke I fellI
Who still is fiercest where we least rebelJ
Pity my undeserved and lingering painsF
To holier thoughts my wandering sense restoreH
How on this day his cross thy Son our Saviour boreH
