Sonnet Xl Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A A BCCBBCCBDEDEAA F

Se mai foco per foco non si spenseA
-
HIS HEART IS ALL IN FLAMES BUT HIS TONGUE IS MUTE IN HER PRESENCEA
-
-
If fire was never yet by fire subduedB
If never flood fell dry by frequent rainC
But like to like if each by other gainC
And contraries are often mutual foodB
Love who our thoughts controllest in each moodB
Through whom two bodies thus one soul sustainC
How why in her with such unusual strainC
Make the want less by wishes long renewedB
Perchance as falleth the broad Nile from highD
Deafening with his great voice all nature roundE
And as the sun still dazzles the fix'd eyeD
So with itself desire in discord foundE
Loses in its impetuous object forceA
As the too frequent spur oft checks the courseA
