Rhyme Scheme: A B CDDCCDDCEFFGHH I

Lasso che mal accorto fui da primaA

HE PRAYS LOVE TO KINDLE ALSO IN HER THE FLAME BY WHICH HE IS UNCEASINGLY TORMENTEDB
-
-
Alas this heart by me was little knownC
In those first days when Love its depths exploredD
Where by degrees he made himself the lordD
Of my whole life and claim'd it as his ownC
I did not think that through his power aloneC
A heart time steel'd and so with valour storedD
Such proof of failing firmness could affordD
And fell by wrong self confidence o'erthrownC
Henceforward all defence too late will comeE
Save this to prove enough or little hereF
If to these mortal prayers Love lend his earF
Not now my prayer nor can such e'er have roomG
That with more mercy he consume my heartH
But in the fire that she may bear her partH
