Amor mi manda quel dolce penseroA

LIFE WILL FAIL HIM BEFORE HOPEB

-
Love to my mind recalling that sweet thoughtC
The ancient confidant our lives betweenD
Well comforts me and says I ne'er have beenE
So near as now to what I hoped and soughtC
I who at times with dangerous falsehood fraughtC
At times with partial truth his words have seenD
Live in suspense still missing the just meanD
'Twixt yea and nay a constant battle foughtC
Meanwhile the years pass on and I beholdF
In my true glass the adverse time draw nearA
Her promise and my hope which limits hereA
So let it be alone I grow not oldF
Changes not e'en with age my loving trothG
My fear is this the short life left us bothG
