Le stelle e 'l cielo e gli elementi a provaA
-
LAURA'S UNPARALLELED BEAUTY AND VIRTUEB
-
-
The stars the elements and Heaven have madeC
With blended powers a work beyond compareD
All their consenting influence all their careD
To frame one perfect creature lent their aidC
Whence Nature views her loveliness display'dC
With sun like radiance sublimely fairD
Nor mortal eye can the pure splendour bearD
Love sweetness in unmeasured grace array'dC
The very air illumed by her sweet beamsE
Breathes purest excellence and such delightF
That all expression far beneath it gleamsE
No base desire lives in that heavenly lightF
Honour alone and virtue fancy's dreamsE
Never saw passion rise refined by rays so brightF

-
The stars the heaven the elements I weenG
Put forth their every art and utmost careD
In that bright light as fairest Nature fairD
Whose like on earth the sun has nowhere seenG
So noble elegant unique her mienG
Scarce mortal glance to rest on it may dareD
Love so much softness and such graces rareD
Showers from those dazzling and resistless eenG
The atmosphere pervaded and made pureH
By their sweet rays kindles with goodness soI
Thought cannot equal it nor language showI
Here no ill wish no base desires endureH
But honour virtue Here if ever yetF
Has lust his death from supreme beauty metF
