Ite caldi sospiri al freddo coreA
-
HE IMPLORES MERCY OR DEATHB
-
-
Go my warm sighs go to that frozen breastC
Burst the firm ice that charity deniesD
And if a mortal prayer can reach the skiesD
Let death or pity give my sorrows restC
Go softest thoughts Be all you know express'dC
Of that unnoticed by her lovely eyesD
Though fate and cruelty against me riseD
Error at least and hope shall be repress'dC
Tell her though fully you can never tellE
That while her days calm and serenely flowF
In darkness and anxiety I dwellE
Love guides your flight my thoughts securely goF
Fortune may change and all may yet be wellE
If my sun's aspect not deceives my woeF

-
Go burning sighs to her cold bosom goF
Its circling ice which hinders pity rendC
And if to mortal prayer Heaven e'er attendC
Let death or mercy finish soon my woeF
Go forth fond thoughts and to our lady showF
The love to which her bright looks never bendC
If still her harshness or my star offendC
We shall at least our hopeless error knowF
Go in some chosen moment gently sayG
Our state disquieted and dark has beenH
Even as hers pacific and sereneI
Go safe at last for Love escorts your wayG
From my sun's face if right the skies I guessJ
Well may my cruel fortune now be lessJ
