DIALOGUE OF THE POET WITH HIS HEARTB
-
-
P What actions fire thee and what musings fillC
Soul is it peace or truce or war eterneD
H Our lot I know not but as I discernD
Her bright eyes favour not our cherish'd illC
P What profit with those eyes if she at willC
Makes us in summer freeze in winter burnD
H From him not her those orbs their movement learnD
P What's he to us she sees it and is stillC
H Sometimes though mute the tongue the heart lamentsE
Fondly and though the face be calm and brightF
Bleeds inly where no eye beholds its griefG
P Nathless the mind not thus itself contentsE
Breaking the stagnant woes which there uniteF
For misery in fine hopes finds no reliefG

P What act what dream absorbs thee O my soulI
Say must we peace a truce or warfare hailJ
H Our fate I know not but her eyes unveilJ
The grief our woe doth in her heart enrolJ
P But that is vain since by her eyes' controlJ
With nature I no sympathy inhaleJ
H Yet guiltless she for Love doth there prevailJ
P No balm to me since she will not condoleJ
H When man is mute how oft the spirit grievesK
In clamorous woe how oft the sparkling eyeL
Belies the inward tear where none can gazeM
P Yet restless still the grief the mind conceivesM
Is not dispell'd but stagnant seems to lieL
The wretched hope not though hope aid might raiseM
