Rhyme Scheme: A A AAAAAAAABAAABA A CDDCCDDCBAABAA E

O d' ardente virtute ornata e caldaA
-
HE CELEBRATES LAURA'S BEAUTY AND VIRTUEA
-
-
O mind by ardent virtue graced and warm'dA
To whom my pen so oft pours forth my heartA
Mansion of noble probity who artA
A tower of strength 'gainst all assault full arm'dA
O rose effulgent in whose foldings charm'dA
We view with fresh carnation snow take partA
O pleasure whence my wing'd ideas startA
To that bless'd vision which no eye unharm'dA
Created may approach thy name if rhymeB
Could bear to Bactra and to Thule's coastA
Nile Tana s and Calpe should resoundA
And dread Olympus But a narrower boundA
Confines my flight and thee our native climeB
Between the Alps and Apennine must boastA
-
CAPEL LOFFTA
-
-
With glowing virtue graced of warm heart knownC
Sweet Spirit for whom so many a page I traceD
Tower in high worth which foundest well thy baseD
Centre of honour perfect and aloneC
O blushes on fresh snow like roses thrownC
Wherein I read myself and mend apaceD
O pleasures lifting me to that fair faceD
Brightest of all on which the sun e'er shoneC
Oh if so far its sound may reach your nameB
On my fond verse shall travel West and EastA
From southern Nile to Thule's utmost boundA
But such full audience since I may not claimB
It shall be heard in that fair land at leastA
Which Apennine divides which Alps and seas surroundA
