Amor m' ha posto come segno a straleA
-
LOVE'S ARMOURYB
-
-
Love makes me as the target for his dartC
As snow in sunshine or as wax in flameD
Or gale driven cloud and Laura on thy nameD
I call but thou no pity wilt impartC
Thy radiant eyes first caused my bosom's smartC
No time no place can shield me from their beamE
From thee but ah thou treat'st it as a dreamE
Proceed the torments of my suff'ring heartC
Each thought's an arrow and thy face a sunF
My passion's flame and these doth Love employA
To wound my breast to dazzle and destroyA
Thy heavenly song thy speech with which I'm wonF
All thy sweet breathings of such strong controulA
Form the dear gale that bears away my soulA

Me Love has placed as mark before the dartC
As to the sun the snow as wax to fireB
As clouds to wind Lady e'en now I tireB
Craving the mercy which never warms thy heartC
From those bright eyes was aim'd the mortal blowA
'Gainst which nor time nor place avail'd me aughtC
From thee alone nor let it strange be thoughtC
The sun the fire the wind whence I am soA
The darts are thoughts of thee thy face the sunF
The fire my passion such the weapons beH
With which at will Love dazzles yet destroysI
Thy fragrant breath and angel voice which wonF
My heart that from its thrall shall ne'er be freeH
The wind which vapour like my frail life fliesJ
