Ballata Iii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B ACADEDFFAAAAAAAAA E

Quel foco ch' io pensai che fosse spentoA
-
HE THOUGHT HIMSELF FREE BUT FINDS THAT HE IS MORE THAN EVER ENTHRALLED BY LOVEB
-
-
That fire for ever which I thought at restA
Quench'd in the chill blood of my ripen'd yearsC
Awakes new flames and torment in my breastA
Its sparks were never all from what I seeD
Extinct but merely slumbering smoulder'd o'erE
Haply this second error worse may beD
For by the tears which I in torrents pourF
Grief through these eyes distill'd from my heart's coreF
Which holds within itself the spark and baitA
Remains not as it was but grows more greatA
What fire save mine had not been quench'd and kill'dA
Beneath the flood these sad eyes ceaseless shedA
Struggling 'mid opposites so Love has will'dA
Now here now there my vain life must be ledA
For in so many ways his snares are spreadA
When most I hope him from my heart expell'dA
Then most of her fair face its slave I'm heldA
