He stood before my heart's closed doorA
And asked to enter inB
But I had barred the passage o'erC
By unbelief and sinB

He came with nail prints in his handsD
To set my spirit freeE
With wounded feet he trod a pathF
To come and sup with meE

He found me poor and brought me goldG
The fire of love had triedH
And garments whitened by his bloodI
My wretchedness to hideH

The glare of life had dimmed my eyesJ
Its glamour was too brightK
He came with ointment in his handsD
To heal my darkened sightK

He knew my heart was tempest tossedL
By care and pain oppressedM
He whispered to my burdened heartN
Come unto me and restM

He found me weary faint and wornO
On barren mountains coldG
With love's constraint he drew me onP
To shelter in his foldG

Oh foolish heart how slow wert thouQ
To welcome thy dear guestM
To change thy weariness and careR
For comfort peace and restM
-
Close to his side oh may I stayS
Just to behold his faceT
Till I shall wear within my soulU
The image of his graceT

The grace that changes hearts of stoneV
To tenderness and loveW
And bids us run with willing feetX
Unto his courts aboveW
