Mother's Treasures Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGHG FIHI JKLM NOPO LDQD RSTS

Two little children sit by my sideA
I call them Lily and DaffodilB
I gaze on them with a mother's prideA
One is Edna the other is WillB
-
Both have eyes of starry lightC
And laughing lips o'er teeth of pearlD
I would not change for a diademE
My noble boy and darling girlD
-
To night my heart o'erflows with joyF
I hold them as a sacred trustG
I fain would hide them in my heartH
Safe from tarnish of moth and rustG
-
What should I ask for my dear boyF
The richest gifts of wealth or fameI
What for my girl A loving heartH
And a fair and a spotless nameI
-
What for my boy That he should standJ
A pillar of strength to the stateK
What for my girl That she should beL
The friend of the poor and desolateM
-
I do not ask they shall never treadN
With weary feet the paths of painO
I ask that in the darkest hourP
They may faithful and true remainO
-
I only ask their lives may beL
Pure as gems in the gates of pearlD
Lives to brighten and bless the worldQ
This I ask for my boy and girlD
-
I ask to clasp their hands againR
'Mid the holy hosts of heavenS
Enraptured say I am here oh GodT
And the children Thou hast givenS
