Jamie's Puzzle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE FGHG IBJB KDHD LMIM NOPI QEIE HRLR KSISThere was grief within our household | A |
Because of a vacant chair | B |
Our mother so loved and precious | C |
No longer was sitting there | B |
- | |
Our hearts grew heavy with sorrow | D |
Our eyes with tears were blind | E |
And little Jamie was wondering | F |
Why we were left behind | E |
- | |
We had told our little darling | F |
Of the land of love and light | G |
Of the saints all crowned with glory | H |
And enrobed in spotless white | G |
- | |
We said that our precious mother | I |
Had gone to that land so fair | B |
To dwell with beautiful angels | J |
And to be forever there | B |
- | |
But the child was sorely puzzled | K |
Why dear grandmamma should go | D |
To dwell in a stranger city | H |
When her children loved her so | D |
- | |
But again the mystic angel | L |
Came with swift and silent tread | M |
And our sister Jamie's mother | I |
Was enrolled among the dead | M |
- | |
To us the mystery deepened | N |
To Jamie it seemed more clear | O |
Grandma he said must be lonesome | P |
And mamma has gone to her | I |
- | |
But the question lies unanswered | Q |
In our little Jamie's mind | E |
Why she should go to our mother | I |
And leave her children behind | E |
- | |
To dwell in that lovely city | H |
From all that was dear to part | R |
From children who loved to nestle | L |
So closely around her heart | R |
- | |
Dear child like you we are puzzled | K |
With problems that still remain | S |
But think in the great hereafter | I |
Their meaning will all be plain | S |
