He Who From Fate Receives But Blow On Blow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA ABBA CDE DCD

He who from fate receives but blow on blowA
Who like myself in her disfavour standsB
Although he had a hundred mighty handsB
Would vainly strive for riches here belowA
-
His paths are strewn with thorns where'er he goA
And where he looks for home there soon expandsB
A sea of woes against its stormy strandsB
Waves roll and splash in unremitting flowA
-
Pursued and tossed about by Care by NeedC
He finds no peace from worries on his roadD
Though to the farthest place his search may leadE
-
And only in the quiet cold abodeD
Which after weary life's span is decreedC
Will death relieve him of his toilsome loadD
