When Genius lends thee all his living light | J |
Where the full beams of intellect unite | J |
When love illumes thee with his varying ray | A |
Where trembling Hope and tearful Rapture play | A |
Or Pity's melting cloud thy beam subdues | I |

And O when thought in ecstacy sublime | L |
That soars triumphant o'er the bounds of time | L |
Fires thy keen glance with inspiration's blaze | I |
The light of heaven the hope of nobler days | I |

Flash through the mist of dim mortality | N |
Who does not own that through thy lightning beams | I |
A flame unquenchable unearthly streams | I |
That pure though captive effluence of the sky | M |
The vestal ray the spark that cannot die | M |
