To Resignation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFGGHI JJKKLLMN

MAID of the placid smile and heav'nly mienA
With beaming eye tho' tearful yet sereneA
Teach me like thee in sorrow's ling'ring hourB
To bless devotion's all consoling pow'rC
Teach me like thee when storms around me riseD
And spreading glooms obscure the azure skiesD
On one unclouded light to fix my viewE
For ever brilliant and for ever trueE
The star of faith whose mild celestial rayF
With steady lustre shall direct my wayF
Thy seraph hand shall raise my drooping headG
Angel of peace thy wings around me spreadG
With hallow'd spells my fainting spirit cheerH
Hush the sad murmur dry the starting tearI
-
Thus when the halcyon broods upon the tidesJ
The winds are lull'd the mountain wave subsidesJ
Soft rainbow hues reflected tinge the deepK
And balmy zephyrs on its bosom sleepK
Maid of the placid smile my troubled soulL
Would own thy gentle reign thy mild controlL
Though the pale cypress twine thy sainted browM
Eternal palms for thee in heav'n shall blowN
