The Wounded Eagle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEE FFGGHHIIJJKKLLMM NNLLOOIL

Eagle this is not thy sphereA
Warrior bird what seek'st thou hereB
Wherefore by the fountain's brinkC
Doth thy royal pinion sinkC
Wherefore on the violet's bedD
Lay'st thou thus thy drooping headD
Thou that hold'st the blast in scornE
Thou that wear'st the wings of mournE
-
Eagle wilt thou not ariseF
Look upon thine own bright skiesF
Lift thy glance the fiery sunG
There his pride pf place has wonG
And the mountain lark is thereH
And sweet sound hath fill'd the airH
Hast thou left that realm on highI
Oh it can be but to dieI
Eagle Eagle thou hast bowedJ
From thine empire o'er the cloudJ
Thou that hadst ethereal birthK
Thou hast stoop'd too near the earthK
And the hunter's shaft hath found theeL
And the toils of death have bound theeL
Wherefore didst thou leave thy placeM
Creature of a kingly raceM
-
Wert thou weary of thy throneN
Was the sky's dominion loneN
Chill and lone it well might beL
Yet that mighty wing was freeL
Now the chain is o'er thee castO
From thy heart the blood flows fastO
Woe for gifted souls and highI
Is not such their destinyL
