The Treasures Of The Deep Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEBF DGDCHH IJIJKK LMLMFF FNFNCC

What hid'st thou in thy treasure caves and cellsA
Thou hollow sounding and mysterious mainB
Pale glistening pearls and rainbow colour'd shellsA
Bright things which gleam unreck'd of and in vainB
Keep keep thy riches melancholy seaC
We ask not such from theeC
-
Yet more the depths have more what wealth untoldD
Far down and shining through their stillness liesE
Thou hast the starry gems the burning goldD
Won from ten thousand royal ArgosiesE
Sweep o'er thy spoils thou wild and wrathful mainB
Earth claims not these againF
-
Yet more the depths have more thy waves have roll'dD
Above the cities of a world gone byG
Sand hath fill'd up the palaces of oldD
Sea weed o'ergrown the halls of revelryC
Dash o'er them ocean in thy scornful playH
Man yields them to decayH
-
Yet more the billows and the depths have moreI
High hearts and brave are gather'd to thy breastJ
They hear not now the booming waters roarI
The battle thunders will not break their restJ
Keep thy red gold and gems thou stormy graveK
Give back the true and braveK
-
Give back the lost and lovely those for whomL
The place was kept at board and hearth so longM
The prayer went up through midnight's breathless gloomL
And the vain yearning woke 'midst festal songM
Hold fast thy buried Isles thy towers o'erthrownF
But all is not thine ownF
-
To thee the love of woman hath gone downF
Dark flow thy tides o'er manhood's noble headN
O'er youth's bright locks and beauty's flowery crownF
Yet must thou hear a voice restore the deadN
Earth shall reclaim her precious things from theeC
Restore the dead thou seaC
