The Silver Locks Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBBA CCDDDC EEFFFE GGGGGG HHIIIH JJKKKJ EEBBBE

Tho' youth may boast the curls that flowA
In sunny waves of auburn glowA
As graceful on thy hoary headB
Has time the robe of honor spreadB
And there oh softly softly shedB
His wreath of snowA
-
As frost work on the trees display'dC
When weeping Flora leaves the shadeC
E'en more than Flora charms the sightD
E'en so thy locks of purest whiteD
Survive in age's frost work brightD
Youth's vernal rose decay'dC
-
To grace the nymph whose tresses playE
Light on the sportive breeze of MayE
Let other bards the garland twineF
Where sweets of ev'ry hue combineF
Those locks rever'd that silvery shineF
Invite my layE
-
Less white the summer cloud sublimeG
Less white the winter's fringing rimeG
Nor do Belinda's lovelier seemG
'A poet's blest immortal theme'G
Than thine which wear the moonlight beamG
Of rev'rend timeG
-
Long may the graceful honors smileH
Like moss on some declining pileH
Oh much rever'd may filial careI
Around thee duteous long repairI
Thy joys with tender bliss to shareI
Thy pains beguileH
-
Long long ye snowy ringlets waveJ
Long long your much lov'd beauty saveJ
May bliss your latest ev'ning crownK
Disarm life's winter of its frownK
And soft ye hoary hairs go downK
In gladness to the graveJ
-
And as the parting beams of dayE
On mountain snows reflected playE
And tints of roseate lustre shedB
Thus on the snow that crowns thy headB
May joy with ev'ning planet shedB
His mildest rayE
