I do set my bow in the cloud and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earthA
-
Genesis ixB
-
-
SOFT falls the mild reviving showerC
From April's changeful skiesB
And rain drops bend each trembling flowerC
They tinge with richer dyesB
-
Soon shall their genial influence callD
A thousand buds to dayE
Which waiting but their balmy fallD
In hidden beauty layE
-
E'en now full many a blossom's bellF
With fragrance fills the shadeG
And verdure clothes each grassy dellF
In brighter tints arrayedG
-
But mark what arch of varied hueH
From heaven to earth is bowedI
Haste ere it vanish haste to viewH
The Rainbow in the cloudI
-
How bright its glory there beholdJ
The emerald's verdant raysB
The topaz blends its hue of goldJ
With the deep ruby's blazeB
-
Yet not alone to charm thy sightK
Was given the vision fairL
Gaze on that arch of colored lightK
And read God's mercy thereL
-
It tells us that the mighty deepM
Fast by th' Eternal chainedN
No more o'er earth's domains shall sweepM
Awful and unrestrainedN
-
It tells that seasons heat and coldJ
Fixed by his sovereign willO
Shall in their course bid man beholdJ
Seed time and harvest stillO
-
That still the flower shall deck the fieldP
When vernal zephyrs blowQ
That still the vine its fruit will yieldP
When autumn sun beams glowQ
-
Then child of that fair earth which yetR
Smiles with each charm endowedI
Bless thou His name whose mercy setR
The Rainbow in the cloudI
