The Last Song Of Sappho Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG AHAH IJIJ KLKL MNMN OPOP QRQS FAFA

SOUND on thou dark unslumbering seaA
My dirge is in thy moanB
My spirit finds response in theeA
To its own ceaseless cry 'Alone alone 'C
-
Yet send me back one other wordD
Ye tones that never ceaseE
Oh let your secret caves be stirr'dD
And say dark waters will ye give me peaceE
-
Away my weary soul hath soughtF
In vain one echoing sighG
One answer to consuming thoughtF
In human hearts and will the wave replyG
-
Sound on thou dark unslumbering seaA
Sound in thy scorn and prideH
I ask not alien world from theeA
What my own kindred earth hath still deniedH
-
And yet I loved that earth so wellI
With all its lovely thingsJ
Was it for this the death wind fellI
On my rich lyre and quench'd its living stringsJ
-
Let them lie silent at my feetK
Since broken even as theyL
The heart whose music made them sweetK
Hath pour'd on desert sands its wealth awayL
-
Yet glory's light hath touch'd my nameM
The laurel wreath is mineN
With a lone heart a weary frameM
O restless deep I come to make them thineN
-
Give to that crown that burning crownO
Place in thy darkest holdP
Bury my anguish my renownO
With hidden wrecks lost gems and wasted goldP
-
Thou sea bird on the billow's crestQ
Thou hast thy love thy homeR
They wait thee in the quiet nestQ
And I the unsought unwatch'd for I too comeS
-
I with this winged nature fraughtF
These visions wildly freeA
This boundless love this fiery thoughtF
Alone I come oh give me peace dark seaA
